Writing quotation marks, numbers, punctuation, spaces or symbols is an integral part of every European language. Specific typographic rules have been developed for each language for centuries, but in recent decades, especially due to globalisation and the unification of software tools, they have been disregarded. The international project of a typographic proofreader for European languages will preserve these rules as an expression of European cultural diversity for future generations.

The basis of the project is to systematically describe the current typographic rules and practices of all 24 official EU languages, including minority languages in the future, all that with the help of local professionals. The aim of this international research is to create a publicly accessible database of typographic rules, which will be followed by a web application for the general public as well as to public and commercial institutions.

This project is co-financed from the state budget by the Technology agency of the Czech Republic under the SIGMA Progamme. It is initiated and led by typographic experts Mgr. Filip Blažek and doc. MgA. Radek Sidun from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
